Frank V. Zerunyan, Interim Director of the USC Price Safe Communities Institute (SCI), was honored to sit down with Emma Sharif, Mayor of the City of Compton, in an exclusive interview celebrating Black History Month. We discussed her pivotal role as a leader in public service. 

Since taking office, Mayor Sharif has led initiatives to enhance community safety, including addressing human trafficking, tackling homelessness, and supporting the Collaborative Court.

Her leadership has also driven infrastructure improvements, such as the $19.5 million citywide infrastructure program, which includes critical pedestrian and bicycle safety measures, crosswalk upgrades, and road rehabilitation efforts. These initiatives reflect Mayor Sharif’s commitment to fostering a safer, more secure environment for all Compton residents.
