Film Discussion – ‘American Skin’

March 24, 2021 @ 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM

Join actor and director Nate Parker, his nephew Shyhiem Parker, and police officers from the Santa Monica Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, and USC’s Department of Public Safety for an online discussion on the film “American Skin.” SCI Director Dr. Erroll Southers will provide the welcome.

“American Skin” is a 2019 film about a war veteran who seeks justice when police kill his unarmed son during a routine traffic stop. This panel will discuss the premise for Nate writing the film and allow police officers, diverse in departments and ethnicity, to share about the challenges and misconstructions they face while doing their jobs. Both sides will tell their stories and engage in dialogue about how things are seen through the lens of victim vs. enforcer.

Register today to join the event.
