Genevieve Giuliano is the Interim Dean and Distinguished Professor of Public Policy at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy, where she also holds the Ferraro Chair in Effective Local Government. With a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the University of California, Irvine, Giuliano is a leading expert in transportation policy, metropolitan spatial structure, travel demand, and urban transportation. Her leadership roles have been pivotal, including her tenure as the USC Price School’s inaugural Associate Dean for Research, where she played a crucial role in establishing key research infrastructure such as the Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics. Giuliano has directed the METRANS Transportation Consortium for over two decades, transforming it into one of the premier transportation research organizations in the country.
Her extensive experience includes contributions to numerous transportation task forces and committees throughout the Los Angeles region, focusing on areas such as freight movement, traffic mitigation, and clean vehicle technologies. She has served on several National Academy of Sciences policy studies, including the Committee on Global Climate Change. Giuliano’s research covers a broad spectrum, from the relationships between land use and transportation to sustainable transportation practices, and she has authored over 200 scholarly papers. Her innovative work includes early studies on gender differences in travel behavior and interdisciplinary research on land use and freight transportation.
In recent years, Giuliano has been involved in examining the impacts of global climate change on the U.S. transportation system and working with Caltrans and CARB on implementing the California Sustainable Freight Action Plan.
