Terrorist attacks have had creeping societal and political effects, driving inter- and intra-community divisions and accelerating the rise of both Islamist and far-right extremism, in particular across Europe and the US. Julia Ebner will speak about the threat posed by the phenomenon of reciprocal radicalization, which has created a spiraling torrent of hate between different forms of extremism. On the basis of her field research and digital analytics work, she will provide insights into the strategic trajectories of Islamist and far-right extremists and illustrate their capabilities of learning from each other.

Julia Ebner is a terrorism and extremism researcher based in London. She is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue and Global Fellow at the Project for the Study of the 21st Century. She spent two years working for the world’s first counter-extremism organization Quilliam, where she led research projects on terrorism prevention for the European Commission and Kofi Annan Foundation and evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee on far-right extremism.
