The United States faces a growing threat from homegrown violent extremism (HVE), which is perpetrated by American citizens and residents who embrace an ideology that demands violence. SCI conducts research and other programming to enhance awareness and understanding of HVE, as well as develop insights, methodologies and tactics for addressing the threat from HVE. The Institute brings together an international, interdisciplinary collection of counterterrorism experts, scholars, government officials, faith-based leaders and former extremists to identify potential community-driven strategies, policies and programs that reduce the risk of HVE recruitment and radicalization.
