We stand on the shoulders of giants and this month, more than others, as we celebrate those who endured the hardships and sacrificed to pave the way for us all. This is American history, as much as it is Black history and should never be forgotten or erased.

Dr. Erroll G. Southers is the Associate Senior Vice President of Safety and Risk Assurance at the University of Southern California (USC), responsible for overseeing the Administration Division’s Safety Departments. He is a former FBI SWAT Agent, served as a Professor of the Practice in National and Homeland Security, Director of the Safe Communities Institute and Director of Homegrown Violent Extremism Studies at USC. Dr. Southers was President Obama’s first nominee for TSA Assistant Secretary, Governor Schwarzenegger’s Deputy Director for Critical Infrastructure of the California Office of Homeland Security, Governor Newsom’s appointee to the Commission on the State of Hate and Mayor Karen Bass’ appointee to the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners, where he serves as President. He also served as Assistant Chief of Homeland Security and Intelligence at the Los Angeles World Airports Police Department and Assistant Vice President/Chief of Protection Services at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Dr. Southers is a noted counterterrorism expert and security analyst to numerous media networks, lectures and consults around the world. He earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University, he holds a masters and doctoral degrees in public policy from USC and is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
