Chief Mike Inman
Deputy Fire Chief Mike Inman has worked as a fire service professional for over 40 years. Chief Inman began his career in 1983 as a reserve firefighter with the Monterey Park Fire Department. In 1986, he joined the Los Angeles County Fire Department and has held the ranks of Fire Fighter, Fire Fighter Paramedic, Fire Fighter Specialist, Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, and Assistant Fire Chief.
Currently, Deputy Fire Chief Mike Inman provides leadership for three divisions: Command and Control, Construction and Maintenance, and Fleet Services. This includes overseeing 276 facilities and more than 1,600 vehicles with a budget exceeding $75 million.
Previously, as Acting Deputy Fire Chief of the East Regional Operations Bureau, he provided leadership for 76 fire stations, four divisions, ten battalions, 33 cities, and 1,400 personnel. He also oversees the Fire Department’s Equipment Development Committee.
In earlier assignments, he managed the East Regional Operations Bureau’s Division II as an Assistant Fire Chief, which included two battalions, nine cities, and 16 fire stations. As a Battalion Chief, he served five years in the Camps Section, overseeing paid camps and the Heavy Equipment Unit. Additionally, he spent five years as an Operations Battalion Chief.
Well-versed in emergency management, Chief Inman became a pioneer in the Urban Search and Rescue Program with several United States deployments. After becoming involved in incident management, he held various ICS positions on USFS Type 2 Incident Management Teams (IMT) for 25 years, including Operations Section Chief and Operations Branch Director on a Cal Fire Type 1 IMT. Since 1998, he has served in various capacities on Los Angeles County Incident Management Teams.
Chief Inman teaches FEMA and California Incident Command Certification System (CICCS) courses and is a qualified Incident Commander Type 3 & Type 2 (t), Operations Section Chief Type 1, Safety Officer, and Division Supervisor. Over the last several years, he has served as the Operations Section Chief on several all-risk and wildland urban interface incidents, including the Mendocino Complex (2018), Woolsey Fire (2018), Saddle Ridge Fire (2019), Tick Fire (2019), Operation Room Key (2020), Lake Fire (2020), Bobcat Fire (2020), COVID-19 Mass Vaccinations (2021), and Super Bowl LVI (2022). Chief Inman is a certified California State Fire Marshal Chief Officer and a graduate of the Executive Leadership Development Program and Public Safety Leadership Program at the University of Southern California, Sol Price School of Public Policy.
