Markeisha Brignac is a Southern California native from the San Fernando Valley, with a Bachelor of Science in Family Education from California State University, Northridge. In addition, she completed the Secondary Education Teacher Credential Program at CSUN. Her career in education began with the Los Angeles Unified School District, where she worked for two years until she was impacted by mass layoffs.
In January 2008, she transitioned to a career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). After successfully completing the Correctional Academy, she began her role as a Correctional Officer at California State Prison, Los Angeles County, in Lancaster, California. She was later promoted to Correctional Counselor I, where she contributed to the classification process of incarcerated individuals. Throughout her eight years at the prison, she gained extensive experience working in a Level IV facility, primarily with inmates serving life sentences.
In 2015, Markeisha advanced to the Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) as a Parole Agent I, working in various units across Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. She managed diverse caseloads, including Female Offenders, Gang Members, participants in the California Parole Supervision Reintegration Model, and long-term offenders, also known as “Lifers.” During this time, she also collaborated with various law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In 2020, she was promoted to Parole Agent II, Specialist, where she currently supervises incarcerated individuals at the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in Los Angeles. The MCRP is a collaborative effort between the Division of Rehabilitative Programs (DRP), Division of Adult Institutions (DAI), and the Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO). Male inmates who meet eligibility criteria determined by DAI may serve a portion of their prison sentence in an MCRP facility in lieu of a state prison. The MCRP is a residential facility located in the community and aims to successfully reintegrate offenders by providing community-based programming relative to the participant’s criminogenic needs.
Additionally, Markeisha serves as an instructor at the Parole Agent Academy, where she helps train and mentor the next generation of parole agents. Outside of her professional duties, she is actively involved in her nonprofit organization, True Purpose Inc., which helps youth engage in extracurricular activities and develop their potential.
