Officer Spotlight: Kate Folker

As an employee at UC Davis, she worked various roles throughout the University including career counselor, academic advisor, grant coordinator, program manager, department and program supervisor, and instructor.  In 2018, she was fortunate to join the UCDPD as part of Chief Farrow’s vision to accredit the department, moving both UCD and the system forward toward more modern policing standards and practices. Working in law enforcement has always been a dream of hers since she volunteered as an explorer as a teenager.

Kate Folker is an 20-year veteran of the UC Davis, having worked at UC Davis Police Department since December 2018. She began as the IACLEA Accreditation Managers and is currently assigned to the Office of the Chief where she serves as the Chief of Staff to Chief Joe Farrow and oversees accreditation at UC Davis and for UC Santa Cruz.

Ms. Folker holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from University of California, Davis and a Master of Science degree in Counseling from the California State University, Sacramento. She completed the SCI Public Safety Leadership Program, along with the FBI Citizens Academy, the UCLA Women’s Leadership Academy, and is in the process of completing the University of California Women’s Initiative (UC WI) for Professional Development Cohort. She is a dedicated volunteer for the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office as part of their Restorative Justice Partnership Program. Completing the SCI program inspired her to further her law enforcement leadership education and continue evolving as a leader and mentor. In her free time, Ms. Folker enjoys reading, hiking with her best friend, traveling, watching football (soccer), and spending time with her daughters.
