CBC Briefing – Black Identity Extremism

March 20, 2018 @ 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

SCI Director Dr. Erroll Southers will contribute to a briefing before the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) on the FBI’s “Black Identity Extremism” (BIE) designation and the implications for public safety. The briefing will examine the 12-page FBI assessment, “Black Identity Extremists Likely Motivated to Target Law Enforcement Officers,” and invited participants will provide expert analysis to reveal whether BIE exists at all and how the FBI’s designation could impact the way peaceful protests are policed.

Watch SCI’s February 2018 conversation with Rep. Karen Bass about BIE, who explained her concerns that the BIE designation will lead to police violence against young black activists.
